Benefits of Exercise

Before becoming a Chiropractor I studied Kinesiology with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology and Biomechanics.  Essentially this means that I learned at length what changes occur in the body as a result of exercise (and lack thereof).

I read an article yesterday about a 100 year old man who ran a marathon!  WOW.  Fauja Singh completed a marathon in Toronto.  I was both inspired and reminded that our bodies are amazing machines, the most advanced machines ever created because they have the ability to change and adapt on demand.  If you ask your body to lift heavy weights it will slowly build the strength it needs.  If you ask it to give you the endurance needed to run for 10 hours straight, it will slowly give you that endurance too.

Unfortunately, if you tell your body that none of those things are needed, it will take them away.  This is in line with the famous saying "a body in motion tends to stay in motion, a body at rest tends to stay at rest".

So if your body has been at rest for too long, get out there and do something.  No need to start with a marathon, but how about a walk?
