We are currently treating quite a few pregnant women in our practice (can you say COVID babies!) so I wanted to share the benefits of chiropractic care and hopefully answer any questions people may have.
YES! Chiropractic is very safe for pregnant women. In fact, for moms suffering from back pain during pregnancy chiropractic is one of the few modalities that can and should be used, as most medications to control pain are usually not recommend as they may have an effect on the unborn baby.
The most common conditions seen associated with pregnancy are lower back pain, neck and shoulder pain and sciatica. We have special chiropractic tables with a belly piece that drops to allow for expecting moms to be comfortably face down during their treatment all the way till the end of their pregnancy.
Usually the techniques used to treat pregnancy related pain are gentle traditional chiropractic adjustments, pelvic blocks to balance the pelvis, gentle soft tissue techniques like massage or myofascial release, and stretching and strengthening exercises.
We also use THE WEBSTER technique which is a chiropractic technique with a specific application for pregnancy with the goal of balancing the sacro-iliac joints to reduce pressure and normalize tension. This technique is often called on when the baby is breech. Recently an expecting mom with only two weeks to go came in referred by her OBGYN. Her baby was breech and if the baby did not turn she was doing to need a C-section which she didn't want. My exam revealed a significant pelvic distortion. After a single treatment, my patient 1) felt significantly better in her lower back and had increased hip mobility, and 2) stated she went home and felt her baby turn. During her follow up ultrasound with her OB, she confirmed her baby had turned and would mostly likely be able to skip the C-section. I'm happy to report she had a natural birth of a beautiful baby girl. Please see her review below.

In addition to chiropractic, we offer acupuncture and massage that have helped expecting moms tremendously. If you have any questions, please feel free to call our office and learn more about how we can help expecting moms. Always, stay healthy, get adjusted, take your supplements, and stay positive.
