Foot pain, Plantar Fasciitis and how we treat it!

Do you wake up and your first few steps feel like you are stepping in shards of glass? If so, you are probably suffering from plantar fasciitis At our office, we have great success treating this condition by addressing the cause of the problem.

What is PLANTAR FASCIITIS?

Plantar Fasciitis (PF) is a general term used to describe pain at the bottom of the foot. Generally It is caused by inflammation to the thick band that connects the toes to the heel bone, called the plantar fascia, which runs across the bottom of your foot.  One must look further than just the area of pain.  Commonly in patients suffering from PF you will find ankle subluxations and maybe decreased joint mobility, as well as tight calves.

Tight calves cause tension into the calcaneus bone which in turn creates tension into the plantar fascia.

It is important to identify, and examine the foot complex properly, otherwise treatment can fail and the patient may be left with chronic and debilitating foot pain.  That's why in most cases, taking over the counter anti-inflammatories and pain killers doesn't work.  Even steroid (cortisone) shots often fail to provide long term relief as they fail to address the foot ankle and lower extremity mechanics.

Recently we treated a patient with a 6 months history of PF.  This patient is very active and her condition had began to limit her sports and ADLs. After one treatment she improved 50% in one day, and 100% in two days!

So, what exactly did we do?  Myofascial release to her foot and gastroc/soleus muscles.  Ankle chiropractic mobilization and we used the Class IV K-laser on her.

Even though we had always had great success in treating plantar fasciitis, I believe it was the addition of our brand new therapeutic laser that resulted in this dramatic improvement is just one treatment.
